Comic Fiesta 2010: What A Joke!

This year's Comic Fiesta was worse than the last one.

Officially the biggest waste of RM15 this year, and considering all the stuff I've bought this year that I didn't really need, that's saying something.

5 reasons why it sucked even more than the previous one:

  1. Venue. Having an (relatively large scale) event with this many people attending on the 14th floor of a building with only a few lifts working? You gotta be kidding me.

  2. Space. The name of the venue was damn misleading. "Manhattan Ballroom", fuiyoh! I think the multi-purpose hall in Taylor's Lakeside might be bigger than that.

  3. Crowd control. So many people packed into such a small space? I rest my case.

  4. Cosplayers + photographers. Do you know how much leg room these people take up? First of all, you have all these cosplayers in their fancy outfits prancing around a small, confined space. Then you get the photogs standing in front of them trying to snap pics. Then in between these two you have this "no go" zone. That leaves... approximately 1 feet of space for the rest of us people who are just trying to pass/walk/escape the madness.

  5. 14th floor. Really, people CF organizers? You decide to hold an event like this, with the crowd turning up bigger each year, on the freaking FOURTEENTH FLOOR of a hotel building? Ignoring the staircase (if there's even one there), you can't even get the bloody escalators to work on this particular day, resulting in everybody squeezing into the lifts shared by hotel guests and room service waiters alike.

Honestly, I shouldn't be surprised. It is Malaysia, after all.

If they were so good at organizing events, the annual AFA would've been held here instead of in Singapore. Which I plan to attend every single year until I lose interest or am unable to get there due to whatever reason.

P/S: This is my 100th post. =_= Kinda wasted on a rant update, but I couldn't take it any longer when I saw all those "omfg cf2010 was awesome i can't wait for 2011 to get hit on the head by a flying poster/be crushed while getting through the crowd/ squashed and fighting for a place in the elevator again!!1!!1!" comments.

P/P/S: Sorry if you were offended by this rant/post. I have the freedom to write whatever I want here since it's my personal opinion of this event on this particular year.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Okay, so I'm posting something here just for the record. And to set something straight.

And that is...

Photobucket

Dev Patel is definitely NOT Prince Zuko. No. Freaking. Way.

What are the casting directors, blind? You can't just slap some fake-burns makeup on his face and say "Nah, here's your Prince Zuko, Mr. Shyamalan".

I mean, come on. I thought Hollywood was better at casting young, unknown hopefuls who miraculously fit the description/drawing/animation of a character.

So there's all this 'controversy' about them initially casting Jesse McCartney for the role, but then the fans got all bitchy because he was white. Frankly, I think Jesse would probably do a better job.

See what I mean? Besides the hair colour (which can be easily solved), he totally has the prince-with-a-tortured-past look. Not to mention he is totally hot just like Zuko in season 3 of the animation.

Or they could have checked under 'cosplayers'. Maybe then they'd find this guy.

Photobucket

The rest of the cast? Not much to say there, although I guess the kid playing Aang is pretty cute.

Recap: Laura likes Zuko from the animation, not the Dev Patel version. In case you didn't get it the first time around.

An Unexpected Trip

I thought today was gonna be another one of those "blue Mondays" that everybody dreads.

8 to 12 went on as scheduled: sit in class → try not to sleep while lecturer drones on → take occasional notes → wait for end of class/lunch. After lunch, went up to the library to kill the 2+ hours before IDM. Turned up early for IDM as usual, since the previous class had finished and we wanted to get good seats up front.

Then the unexpected happened. Mr Julian walked in and said, "I have good news and bad news for you guys. Which one do you want to hear first?"

(Most of the class, in unison) "Bad news." LOL

I guess he was kinda startled by our willingness to have the bad news first, but he just made himself comfortable sitting on the computer desk, then said, "Okay, the bad news is there's a talk in 20 minutes at the lakeside campus. The good news is, class is cancelled for today."

There was a 2-second pause for us to absorb the news before all hell broke loose, with some exclaiming "Yay!!", while a few others (who were much smarter) asked "So we have to go and listen to the talk?"

To which the answer was, of course, yes. -__-"

So a whole group of us SOC semester 2 and 3 students hopped onto the bus, while others drove there in their own cars. We all arrived in time for Mr Paul Southern, the director for Microsoft TV, Video and Music (Asia) to start his talk. He mostly elaborated on TV stuff, so it was kinda hard for us to relate, since we don't have interactive channels and stuff. Suffice to say, it was interesting, but we didn't get an Xbox each, lolz.

I'm really tired right now. The talk ended a little later than expected, and it was raining when we were finally released from the lecture theater. I'd SMS-ed my mum saying I was at the lakeside campus listening to a talk, but they went to LCS to pick me up as usual. AND it was raining. AND the bloody bus was late. FML Needless to say, my first ever visit to the new lakeside campus wasn't all that satisfactory. confused

It was better after that though. Went for a simple dinner, then to pasar malam to buy some stuff. Oh wow, nobody got into a mood this evening, amazing! neutral

Anyway, as I was saying, I'm really tired out today. Luckily tomorrow's [super boring] class starts at 10.

FUCK IT ALL!!

THIS WILL BE A CAPS-ONLY POST. I AM FUCKING PISSED-OFFED RIGHT NOW.

NEVERMIND THAT I MISSED THE MOVIE PREMIERE OF 《Sell Out!》 THIS EVENING. FINE, I CAN LIVE WITH THAT.

WHAT I'M FUCKING PISSED-OFFED ABOUT IS THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE SOOOOO EAGER TO "KEEP IN TOUCH" WITH OTHER PEOPLE, BUT WHEN THE TIME COMES FOR THEM TO ACTUALLY TALK TO EACH OTHER, THEY GO "HI,LONGTIMENOSEE/CHAT,HAVEYOUEATEN,YEAHGREAT,BYE!" AND THEN IT'S UP TO US TO KEEP UP THE CONNECTION EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO TALK ABOUT TO THE OTHER PARTY. NOT TO MENTION THAT WE HAVE ONLY LIKE 10% INTEREST IN HAVING THE CONVERSATION IN THE FIRST PLACE.

MR PHILLIP WAS SO RIGHT. ABOUT THE REFLEXIVE BEHAVIOUR THING, I MEAN.

EXAMPLE:
BRO COMES INTO MY ROOM ALL PISSED OFF AT DAD, THEN STARTS YELLING AT ME. I YELL BACK, GET PISSED OFF, SLAM THE DOOR AND STOMP DOWNSTAIRS, YELL AT DAD, DAD GETS PISSED OFF AT ME AND EVERYBODY ELSE. SEE THE PATTERN?

IN CASE YOU DIDN'T NOTICE, THIS WAS A RANT POST.

I'M OFF TO SLEEP NOW.

I Hate Leftovers

(Comic taken from www.cartoonstock.com)

I've come to hate leftovers. MySpace

No, don't get me wrong. I'm not those super fussy types who demand freshly-cooked food for every single meal. I'm okay with eating yesterday's spaghetti or a slice of cake from the day before.

What I really can't stand is that fact that almost every meal (with rice) at home consists of yesterday's, the day before's, the day before that and all the way to last fortnight's - you guessed right - LEFTOVERS!

I mean, come on la~ I know you love the TV so much (BFFs: Hallmark, HBO and Cinemax) and aren't exactly the greatest cook in the world, but please, don't make us drink last week's soup or consume soy sauce meat that has been reheated 5 (or more) times before.

Shh.... I'll let you in on a lil' secret. MySpace
You know what's been keeping me alive?

Tadaa~!! Maggi mee, or as its proper name says, instant noodles.

I know from experience that it's totally bad for my health, but there are times when you just need to have some hot food to fill your stomach. Seriously, I owe half my life to this wonderful invention. (And the other half is probably gone thanks to it, but I'm not gonna go into that.)

So yeah, that's it. Just a short rant for today.

The Bitch Who Didn't Know Traffic Laws, A Guy Who Ran Out Of Luck and The Fast & The Furious a.k.a. Pantas dan Garang

Oh boy, have I a LOT to blog about today. Let's get things going in chronological order, shall we?

So today it was an 8 a.m. class as usual. We left home around 7.10 a.m. (my dad and mum drive me to school and back) and there was a slight jam as usual around the college area. So there's this 2-lane road leading to the college that always becomes a 1-lane road due to all the cars parked on the left side. My dad was driving on the right side and there were all these cars from the left trying to squeeze in. Of course, we were on the lane with the right of way, and a lot of cars were trying to cut in.

A green Toyota Avanza was behind us and on the left lane and the driver (a perempuan) was trying to cut into our lane. So my dad didn't want to give way to her, since several other cars had already cut in front and we had the right of way anyway.

You know what that BITCH did? She forced her way into the right lane, a little bit behind us and continued to squeeze in even though it was OBVIOUS that she couldn't pass. But she still kept going and of course, there was this loud "sccccrrrrgh" scratching noise that told us her car's face had scratched our car's ass. So my dad just stopped there (effectively holding up the traffic for a while) and we just glared at her. Many people had heard the friction of metal against metal and were looking curiously our way.

So then my dad went a little ways forwards and parked on the left side, which thankfully was empty, and the Avanza followed behind. My dad got down, she got down, and I also got down (since it was almost time for class). I was just in time to hear her say to my dad that it was his fault.

WHAT THE FUCK?! The NERVE she had, saying it was our fault when it was HER stupid bloody idiocy that was the problem! We don't HAVE to give way to stupid idots like her who think they are so great driving an Avanza. If YOU are cutting into the lane WE are in, then WE have the right of way. And if you're a driver in Malaysia, let me enlighten you to the unwritten rule of the road: If MY car is bigger than yours, I have the right of way. Kapeesh?

One last thing before I end this rant and continue to the next item of today's agenda...

To the driver of Mxx 7Xxx:
You BITCH! When people have the right of way and don't want to give way to you, just deal with it! It's YOUR fault if you force your way in and damage other people's car. You're lucky this time around, because if you continue to drive like this, I really, really hope that the next vehicle you "cuddle" is a GODDAMN CONTAINER TRAILER with a driver with a bad personality.
Fuck you, bitch!

Yeah, if you've read all my previous entries, you won't see language such as this come up in my posts. I just see no reason to use those words in my entries unless I am really pissed off, like today. Okay, next~

The big news in class today was the guy who fell to his death from the 14th floor at Suriamas yesterday. According to The Star, the "...teenage student who was locked out of his room and attempted to enter his 14th floor condominium unit via the balcony, met with a tragic end when he lost his footing and plunged to his death."
Tragic indeed. He was apparently a first-year student at Taylors "...and had performed this stunt several times before when he accidentally left his keys inside."

May he rest in peace.

On to the movies section of today! Me, Rhea, Nicole and Grace went to Sunway Pyramid after school today to watch a movie. At first we wanted to watch The Shinjuku Incident, but since Grace had already watched it, we opted for Fast & Furious.

When we entered the cinema, it had already started. Nevertheless, I was lucky enough to not miss the appearance of the title and it's subtitle, which was...

"Pantas Dan Garang"

OMGWTFBBQLMAOLOLROFLHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
*cough* *regains composure*

The last time around, which was TF&TF: Tokyo Drift, the Malay title was "Laju Dan Garang"! My brothers and I had totally cracked up when we saw it. But it was an awesome movie. Tokyo Drift, I mean. Not to mention it had a totally sticky and addictive theme song. =_= The 4th one was okay, but I still think that the Japanese pimped-up cars were cooler.

That's about it for today. It's been a long day and an even longer post.

Ciaoz!
